Air Cadets

Info from the 1955 History Book

The First Officers of the local Air Cadets were Mr. A. E. Gough and Mr. Percy Taylor. (See Bios below)

The Air Cadets first began in the Bienfait Legion Hall.

Awards won by local Cadets in the present or past year:

  • Murray Weppler won the flying Scholarship which enabled him to take a six-week course at the Estevan Airport
  • Albin Kaminski had the honour of taking a six-week summer training course at the R.C.A.F. station at Camp Borden, Ontario.

Following are the present officers of the #30 Wylie-Mitchell Squadron: (ca 1955)

  • F/Lt. Taylor: Commanding Officer
  • F/O. Walker: Assistant Commanding Officer and drill instructor.
  • Prof. Knight: instructor in meteorology
  • Ken Nicholson: navigation and flying scholarship instructor
  • J. Appleby: firearms instructor

Albert Edward Gough (Jr)

  • b- Apr 8, 1913 in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England
  • d- Feb 27, 1989
  • buried in Souris Valley Memorial Gardens in Estevan
  • He was Principal of Bienfait High School for years.
  • Married Isabel Elizabeth Seipp, July 13, 1940 - Regina, SK

Percy Taylor fought in WWI.

  • b- Jan 28, 1897 in Magdalen, Norfolk, England
  • d- Apr 7, 1976 in Summerland, British Columbia, Canada
  • Parents: Joseph Taylor, Louisa Taylor
  • married Catherine Walker in 1926, b- 1902 in Glamis, ON.
  • Mother- Louisa Taylor next of kin, living in River Bank, Magdalen, Norfolk, when he enlisted in Estevan in Dec 3, 1915,
  • shown as a farmer labourer at that time, living near Estevan.
