BC Tel- Clerical- Sales Department

North-West, British Columbia, Canada

When I came here in 1969, we had 2 salesmen, located in the back corner of the old Phone Mart, at 3236 Kalum St. Where the Coffee Room was located later.

They were Don Johnson (or Johnston?) and Wally Nowik

Don Johnson was the first salesman in BC Tel to sell $1,000,000.00 worth of equipment, in one year I think it was too.
He was a dapper dresser and I remember we had a going away buy out in the Skeena Hotel one night, for an I&R guy, whose name I have forgotten.
But regardless of the names, the night progressed, into the throwing the beer stage, which was quite common in the early 70's. But Don didn't know about the ritual.
He sat close enough to the rest of us, that he was fair game. He was sitting with another person at the time, but that didn't stop the attacker.
He ended up with a full glass of beer, all over his nice new suede sport coat. Needless to say, he wasn't impressed.
The attacker might have been Jack Greaves, as that was the night of the disappearing glass full of “Jack's recycled beer?”

I remember Wally Nowik, for 2 things:

  • Great homemade Ukrainian garlic sausage,
  • And he used to join us in the fun Floor hockey league we had at the time.

Wally worked his way up in the Supervisor ranks in Vancouver.
We know Wally and his wife Susan (nee Arthur) were at Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast of BC, operating the Fisherman's Resort & Marina there, until Apr 2005.

Later John Watson became a sales person in the district

John Watson

Brian Allen was the last Sales person hired in the area.
Brian Allen was a BTE person in Terrace, when he bid on the job of salesman.
